Whether you’re a multi-national enterprise or a local one-person band, you should have a blog on your website. You’re probably thinking, “What on earth can I blog about?”, but I’m here to tell you that you can literally blog about anything. You can make it as personable or professional as you like, and you don’t even have to write it yourself (content writers like me LOVE writing blog posts!). I’ve compiled a list of 10 reasons why your business needs a blog. Read on to see why you need to set up your business blog pronto!

 

1. Your website is your own

Social media is all well and good but how many websites do you know that have been and gone in recent years? MySpace, Bebo, Vine? Think of social media like rent: your space is never quite your own. Having a up-to-date website and a blog full of useful, informative posts will rank better with Google after all. If social media were to disappear tomorrow, at least you’d still have an online space to represent your business!

 

2. You can show off your expertise and knowledge

What better place to tell your customers about your products and services than your website? With an additional blog, you can show them behind the scenes, how to use your products and your experiences as a business owner . Basically, any topic that your customers are interested in or ask you about can be turned into a blog post!

 

3. You can go more in depth about your business and industry topics

More and more we are seeing the faces behind small businesses and how they operate. Turn this into long-form blog content and you’re covered! Maybe there’s a new niche in your industry or you do things differently to your competitors? Show yourself off!

 

4. You can drive more traffic to your website

When customers read knowledgeable blog posts, they are more likely to work with you or buy your products. They will trust you and your expertise and will often be a loyal customer, returning for more of your posts. After reading one blog post, it will lead to reading another and another and hopefully buying from you!

 

5. You have even more to talk about on social media

Stuck for social media content inspiration? Break down your blog posts into Instagram feed posts for the week or create an IGTV or set of Stories about the post. You could just promote the blog post on your social media channels in general but make your content work some overtime by repurposing it!

 

6. You can increase your audience/get more customers!

If a customer finds you on social media or a quick Google search, they will eventually come to your website. Having a blog is an extra string to your bow, meaning you take up more of your online space. If they need help understanding what you do and how you do it, use your blog to show them!

 

7. You can provide different content to your social media

Social media is all about short and snappy content; it’s easy to consume, meaning you need to put in a lot of work to make it happen. With a blog post, you can provide more detail or background to your stories without running out of space. Mix it up with shorter blog posts (500-1000 words) and longer posts (1000-2000) so your customers or clients get a range of information from you.

 

8. You can provide free value to your customers

The initial set-up for a website is a varied expense but after that, it’s a free tool for you to make use of. Update your website regularly so customers know exactly where you’re at. Start by adding a blog post a week but be consistent with posting so customers know exactly when to expect the next post.

 

9. You get free advertising from it!

What is the point in having a website if not to advertise your products or services? Use your blog as an extra tool to sell yourself and what you do. Inform or entertain your customers rather than push to sell and you’ll find they just keep coming back!

 

10. You can add personality to your business

A static website homepage with just basic information does nothing to get your customers engaged. Having a blog can be as informal or as formal as you want it to be. Use it to show you’re the expert at what you do, use it to show the face behind the brand or do both. You can still show off your knowledge and personality on one blog!

 

A blog is a great companion for your website to show your customers extra value. Taking the time to write meaningful, useful blog posts can increase sales, engagement and therefore income!
